    Scores killed in a hotel attack in Somalia's Capital

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) At least a dozen people were killed and scores of others were injured on Sunday in an ongoing siege of the popular Afrik Hotel attack in Somali capital, Mogadishu

Witnesses said that At around .17 pm local time,  an explosives-laden vehicle ripped the hotel's front gate before at least four heavily armed men stormed the backyard and begun shooting hoteliers and guests inside.

At 10pm local time the attackers were still inside the building and engaged a fierce gun battle with security forces as they sometimes hurled grenades.


Al-Shabaab militants immediately claimed the responsibility for the attack took credit for the attack.

Journalists at the scene have seen the Somali counter-terror unit being deployed to reinforce the police unit battling the militants inside the Afrik Hotel.

Turkish Foreign Ministry condemns the Afrik Hotel attack in Mogadishu and says it stands with the government and people of Somalia.

In a separate incident, at least 8 children died and 11 others were hospitalized at Golweyn village near the town of Marka, 90km South of the Somali capital Mogadishu. Somali health officials said that the children were playing remnants of explosive devies, when the device exploded.
