MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) Two militant vehicles were destroyed and two Shabab operatives were killed in three US airstrikes in Somalia on Sunday, a day after suspected militant attack killed more than 100 people and wounded dozens in Somalia's capital, US Africa command said in a statement.

The airstrikes which were conducted in coordination with teh Federal government of Somalia destroyed two militant vehicles in two airstrikes in the vicinity of Qunyo Barrow and another strike in Caliyow Barrow which killed 2 Shabab operatives.

"Since al-Shabaab's first external attack in 2010, the group has ruthlessly killed hundreds,” U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William Gayler, director of operations, U.S. Africa Command said in a statement. "They have attacked and killed African partners, allies, and fellow Americans.  They are a global menace and their sights are set on exporting violence regionally and eventually attacking the U.S. homeland.”

"We currently assess no civilians were injured or killed as a result of these airstrikes. We comply with the principles of the Law of Armed Conflict during the course of our operations to ensure the safety of civilians.” The statement added.

The air strikes came a day after suspected Shabab attack killed more than 100 people in Mogadishu’s Ex-control Afgoi, a busy intersection in the Somali capital.

Somali government spokesperson Ismail Muktar said that 25 bodies were still missing including 6 children as of Sunday.

Somali militants have been fighting against the government and its allies in attempt to overthrow the government. The group, which is currently regarded as global threat also stages deadly attacks in the neighboring countries.
