Last Thursday, Kenya announced reopen of the airspace by Kenya following a month-long closure due to diplomatic spat between the two neighboring countries.

In a statement, the ministry said the positive gesture shown by Nairobi is a starting point to commence negotiations aimed at full normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"The two brotherly nations have always collaborated in security, trade and mutual cultural relations which are based on common interests, good neighborliness, respect for sovereignty and political indolence,” the statement said.

Last Month, Kenya suspended all flights to Mogadishu except for emergency medical evacuation and UN flights.

The East Africa said that "all flights between Kenya and Somalia are suspended except medevac flights and United Nations flights on humanitarian missions only," without saying why it had imposed the measure.

Last December, Somalia severed diplomatic ties with Kenya, accusing Nairobi of interfering in Mogadishu's internal affairs but last month the horn of Africa nation restored the relationship.
