MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) -Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has dispelled media reports that he will contest for presidency, saying he would only concentrate on hold free and fair elections in the horn of Africa nation.
Speaking during an event in Daynile district in the outskirts of Mogadishu Friday evening, Roble said he had no intension to run for the highest office in the country.

"I would like to be clear that I will not be running for president in the upcoming election. To me, all candidates are equal and my priority is realizing a free and transparent election,” Roble said.

Roble reiterated that his government is committed to hold free and fair elections in the country.

The remarks come a day the local media reported that he was planning to contest in the upcoming presidential elections.

Last month, Somalia's federal government and regional state leaders signed an agreement ending an impasse that had delayed the holding of both presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.

PM Roble and regional leaders agreed to hold free, fair and inclusive elections within 60 days in the Horn of Africa country.

Meanwhile, some of the country’s opposition had already warned that some of the powerful individuals in the government including spy chief, Fahad Yasin had started horning in on vetting process of elections committees.

"We commend the Somali army and police chiefs for implementing the election agreement by not interfering in politics & elections. However, the intelligence chief is still meddling in vetting process of elections committees. There are still members of NISA in these committees,” Abdirahman Abdishakur, a presidential candidate said last Thursday.
