Al-Shabaab attacks KDF base in Somalia
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Al-Shabaab has today claimed to have killed several soldiers in an attack on Kenyan military base in southern Somalia. According to locals in Hosingow village, hundreds of heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed the base, prompting heavy clashes with Kenyan military soldiers.
In a statement posted on its affiliate media, al-Shabaab said its fighters attacked and destroyed part of the base.
The militant also claimed to have destroyed vehicles in the base. Kenya has yet commented on the claim by the terror.
Al-Shabaab has also been attacking areas along Kenya-Somalia border while targeting mostly non- locals working in the region.
Many people, majority of them non- locals have as a result lost their lives with others left with permanent injuries.
The group vowed to continue staging attacks on Kenya’s soil until the East Africa nation withdraws from Somalia.
Kenya had sent its troops to Somalia in 2011 to fight al-Shabaab following several attacks in Kenya’s coastal region allegedly conducted by the terror group.
