Kenya resumes its diplomatic mission in Somalia
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Kenyan ambassador to Somalia Lucas Tumbo has today arrived in Somali capital, Mogadishu barely a week the two countries agreed restore their diplomatic ties.
According to officials from Kenya foreign ministry, Tumbo and other diplomatic staff have for the first time returned to the country after seven months of diplomatic tiff with
Tumbo was expelled from Somalia last November after Somalia after Somalia accused its neighbour of interfering in the electoral process in Jubbaland, one of Somalia’s five semi-autonomous states.
Kenya rejected the claims and a team formed by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) to investigate claims returned a ‘no guilty’ verdict, which Somalia rejected.
Recently, Kenya reopened its airspace to flights originating from Somalia after suspension.
Kenya had suspended flights originating from Somalia for almost a month as relations between the two countries became frostier.
Kenya and Somalia are now on track to full restoration of severed ties.
Somalia urged Kenya to reopen its embassy in Mogadishu, assuring that it will correspond by reopening its embassy in Nairobi.
