MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Somalia and Ethiopia have today inked bilateral trade agreement, paving the way for the entrepreneurs from both countries to enhance their trading activities.

According to the deal signed by Somali Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Abdillahi Bidhan and Ethiopian ambassador, Abdifatah Abdullahi will allow the horn of Africa nation export fish to its neighbouring landlocked country.

Minister Bidhan said the agreement would help Somalia export cash crops to the neighbouring countries.

"This process is just the beginning. Many people may have heard of Kenyan khat why was it banned? Khat in Kenya has been banned and the Kenyan government has refused to allow us to export our commodities to their country. "Hands are good at exchanging things," said Minister Bidhan.

The first consignment of 5,000 tons of fish from Somalia was dispatched to Ethiopia.

Somalia banned the product from Kenya last year to curb the spread of coronavirus and bargain with Kenya over trade based on win-win situation.

Somalia demanded Kenya to fulfil five conditions, for it to be allowed to send Khat cargo to Somalia.

Somalia asked Kenya to allow in goods from Somalia.

Kenya used to export up to 50 tones of khat valued at $2.5 million daily to Somalia prior to the ban.
