NAIROBI (HORN OBSERVER) - Somalia's ambassador to Kenya, Ahmed Nur Tarzan has confirmed that the country's embassy in Nairobi will resume its operations on Monday.

NAIROBI (HORN OBSERVER) - Somalia's ambassador to Kenya, Ahmed Nur Tarzan has confirmed that the country's embassy in Nairobi will resume its operations on Monday.

Both countries announced resumption of relations mid last month after Kenya lifted a ban on flights from and to Somalia which was imposed in May.

Somalia expelled Kenya’s ambassador to Somalia General Lucas Tumbo in November 2020 and the subsequently ordered the closure of the embassy and exit off staff by mid-December.

The diplomatic row deterioration took shape after Somalia accused its neighbouring Kenya of interfering its internal affairs, a claimed rejected by Kenya.

Speaking to the media, Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya, Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya Ahmed Nur Tarsan said embassy will resume business.

"I would like to inform the Somali community that on Monday the embassy will resume its services,” ambassador Tarsan said.

Kenya also reopened its embassy in Somalia last week after its diplomatic staff arrived in Mogadishu.

This week, Kenyan ambassador to Somalia, Lucas Tumbo and Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble discussed the need to deepen bilateral relations between the two East African nations, which recently restored ties after a months-long dispute.

"The PM and the Ambassador discussed the need to deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation," said the office of the Somali prime minister in a brief statement after the meeting.
