    Somalia: Nugaal governor sacked over recent insecurtity in Garowe

    GAROWE (HORN OBSERVER) - Awil Ahmed Jabuuti has been relieved of his duties as the governor of Nugaal region days after two people killed in Garowe town of Puntland state.

GAROWE (HORN OBSERVER) - Awil Ahmed Jabuuti has been relieved of his duties as the governor of Nugaal region days after two people killed in Garowe town of Puntland state.

Jabuuti has been serving as governor since April last year when his predecessor, Abdisalam Hassan Hirsi died.

In a statement, Puntland state president Saed Abdullahi Deni has appointed Mohamud Hassan Mohamed to replace the immediate outgoing governor of Nugaal.

"Following consultations with the state Minister of Interior and the Puntland Vice president, president has decided to appointed Mohamud Hassan Mohamed (Awil Matan) as the governor of Nugaal region," the statement reads in part.


Deni has directed the incoming governor to assume office with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Deni appointed commission will assess and advise on security in Garowe town.

The three-member committee will prepare report on security arrangements, the advancement of public safety plans and how to tackle drug abuse.

Last week, at two people were killed seperately in Garowe.

One of victims, a female civilian identified as Maryan Ahmed Mohamed died after Deni’s security forces opened fire on a vehicle she was travelling in.
