MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Somali prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has held talks with Somalia's team in Hauge ahead of ICJ verdict on the maritime dispute between Somalia and Kenya, on 12 October.

In a statement, the office of the country’s premiere said Roble wished the delegation led by his deputy, Mahdi Khadar Guleid success, telling them to count on the support of nation the Somali people success in the much-anticipated ruling on the maritime case pitting Somalia against Kenya.

The ICJ’s ruling next week on its long-running border dispute with Somalia may further trouble the often-rocky relations between the two countries.

The ruling is expected to end the seven-year maritime case that Somalia filed at the ICJ in 2014.

The row is over the ownership of more than 100,000 square kilometres of Indian Ocean waters.

Somalia claims its maritime boundary should run in the same direction as the southeasterly path of the country’s land border, while Kenya argues the border should take a 45-degree turn at the shoreline and run in a latitudinal line.

Kenya in March said it would snub hearings after the Hague-based court refused to allow further delays in the case. The final ruling is due to be delivered on Tuesday.

Somalia, which lies northeast of Kenya, wants to extend its maritime frontier with Kenya along the line of the land border, in a south-easterly direction.
