Sakariye Mohamud, 24, and Sowda Mohamud, 22, were shot dead by Somali national army officers at Dabka junction in Mogadishu. The pair were returning from a local hospital where they visited an elder sister of them, according to the family.

"We are assessing the CCTV footage on the road to identify exactly the killer officers. But we have confirmed from witnesses and our investigations is that the vehicle which fired the shots was a Toyota Abdi Bile owned by the Somali National Army (SNA),” the police spokesman, Abdifatah Adan Hassan told reporters.

Shot in the mid of traffic congestion 

Sakariye and Sowda were travelling on tuk tuk taxi when they were both hit on the head.

"There is no clear explanation about the motive. We only heard that there was traffic congestion in the road resulting the officers to shoot to the air first and then shot several shots at the victims. The died of the gun wounds,” police spokesman Hassan adds.

Police said they were pursuing the killers.

However, the family of victims expressed little hope for justice citing lack of accountability for the brutality committed by state security forces.  There have been similar incidents in the past but no one had been held accountable.

The bodies of the Sakariye and Sowda are still held in the hospital as the family declined to bury them to pressure for justice.
