    Ethiopian community in UAE donates 16 million birr to the conflict-affected people in Northern Ethiopia

    Abu Dhabi, UAE – (Horn Observer) Ethiopian community in UAE have gathered 16 million birr aimed to rehabilitate displaced and other conflict-affected people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said in a statement.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – (Horn Observer) Ethiopian community in UAE have gathered 16 million birr aimed to rehabilitate displaced and other conflict-affected people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said in a statement.

The donations were collected in an event attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the United Arab Emirates, H.E. Suleiman Dedefo, and Consul General of the Ethiopian Consulate in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, H.E. Ambassador Aklilu Kebede.

In addition to the 16 million birr donations, the community is also about to send 15,000 books to various schools in Ethiopia, the statement noted.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Suleiman Dedefo called on the Ethiopian community in the UAE to continue their encouraging support to their country given the continued external and internal pressures that compromise the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Similar donations were made by the Ethiopian communities in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Ukraine with 20,000 Euro in donations following calls by Ambassador Mulu Solomon in an event held at the Ambassdor’s residence.

The Ethiopian government is focusing to mobilize the diaspora efforts in supporting their brothers and sisters effected by the conflict in Tigray through donations.
