Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somalia's council of ministers on Thursday approved anti-corruption directives to combat corruption and foster accountability with the aim to strengthening the public financial management system, officials said, amid Somalia's president endorsed the move.


The directives are to said to reinforce current reforms and introduce additional measures that address the most critical priorities including the strengthening of procurement and concession processes, public asset management, and the audit framework.

The directives focus on combating corruption and fostering accountability, aiming to strengthen public financial management systems and meritocracy, as well as improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government institutions.” Statement from the office of the Somalia prime minister said.

Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud whose government ensured sound principles of accountability, transparency and integrity quickly welcomed the move.

"Tackling corruption is not only a moral imperative but also a prerequisite for sustainable development and a just and equitable Somalia. We are determined to build transparent and accountable systems that serve the Somali people.” – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamudsaid.
