Galmudug's president, Ahmed Qoorqoor has escaped unhurt after Al-Shabaab suicide car bomb targeted Laas Gacamey village in Mudug region on Friday 15 September, 2023.
GALKAYO (HORN OBSERVER) – At least two Somali federal lawmakers sustained injuries in a suicide car explosion while Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Karie, commonly known as Qoorqoor, and several other officials narrowly escaped unhurt from an Al-Shabaab suicide car bomb attack on Friday in the village of Laas Gacamey, Mudug region, central Somalia.

According to MP Mohamed Dhabancad, he and Senator Abdi Hassan Awale of the Upper House, also known as Qeybdiid, were injured when an explosive-laden vehicle, orchestrated by Al-Shabaab, struck their residence during the early morning hours.

Reflecting on the ordeal, MP Dhabancad stated, "I am not sure how the car explosion came into our house. This was a huge car bomb. The house was destroyed. Thank God I only sustained minor injuries.”

Despite his age, MP Dhabancad recounted that he had heard that Galmudug’s President Ahmed Qoorqoor, who was present in the village, managed to escape unscathed.

"I heard he is well and has escaped unhurt,” he added.

The exact count of other security officials who may have been casualties in the attack remains unconfirmed.

In response to the incident, Somali forces and allied militias, previously stationed in the village of Laas Gacamey, have since withdrawn to Wisil town.

These allied forces had been deployed to the Mudug region as part of an ongoing operation against the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab.
