MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – A suicide car bomb explosion rocked a bustling market in Buloburte town in the Hiiraan region of central Somalia on Thursday resulting in the loss of at least five lives and leaving over ten individuals injured, as reported by local officials.

District official Nur Osman revealed that the explosive-laden vehicle targeted the market situated at the heart of the town, disrupting the daily routines of the local population.

Among the victims were both men and women who were present at the market, as well as pedestrians engaged in their everyday livelihoods.

Expressing the personal toll of the tragedy, Mohamed Waasuge, a relative of the victims, shared, "Among those killed in today’s bombing in Buloburte is my sister-in-law Maryan Huriye Dhore and her brother Abdullahi Huriye Dhore. Both tragically lost their lives at the same spot. My two-year-old cousin, the daughter of Maryan, survived but sustained injuries in the bombing.”

This attack marks the second incident in less than a week in the Hiiraan region, amidst an ongoing dispute between two rival administrations in the area.

Hiiraan State, a newly formed and unrecognized entity, asserts its governance over the region, while representatives of Hirshabelle State continue to contest this claim.

On the same day, Al-Shabaab targeted Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, with double suicide car bombings killing at least four local policemen.

These attacks occurred while President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Galmudug leader Ahmed Karie Qoorqoor were reportedly inside the presidential palace.

The explosions struck near the city’s airport and a nearby security checkpoint, leaving the city shaken.

Both of these attacks have been claimed by the Al-Shabaab militant group, underscoring the persistent security challenges faced in the region.
