MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Once again Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, became the site of another terror attack on Friday night as Al-Shabaab overran a camp housing UAE-trained security forces in the Kaxda district.
The assault resulted in the tragic loss of at least six Somali soldiers, with several others, including civilians, sustaining injuries.

Local witnesses reported hearing intense gunfights and powerful explosions during the midnight attack, creating an atmosphere of chaos and fear in the vicinity.

Security sources revealed that the UAE-trained forces stationed at the camp were tasked with protecting the capital from terrorist threats but were caught off-guard by the sudden and brutal assault.

Al-Shabaab, claiming responsibility for the attack, announced on Saturday that they had killed a minimum of six soldiers, including the camp's commander, and seized seven firearms. The police, however, have not yet commented on the militant group's claims.

Residents in Kaxda recounted the terror they experienced during the midnight assault, with some seeking refuge in their homes made of iron sheets that offered little protection against the onslaught of bullets.

The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab in the region, highlighting the challenges faced by security forces in safeguarding the capital against such attacks. The international community closely watches the situation as efforts to counter terrorism remain a top priority in Somalia.
