MOGADISHU, Somalia (HORN OBSERVER) – Somalia's law enforcement community is in mourning following the brazen assassination of Colonel Adan Omar Ahmed, affectionately known as Biid, by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu's bustling Xamar Jajab district on Friday afternoon.

According to police reports, the assailants, believed to be affiliated with the notorious extremist group Al-Shabaab, swiftly fled the scene following the fatal attack, leaving a cloud of uncertainty and fear in its wake.

No arrests have been made thus far, underscoring the challenges faced by the police in combating the persistent threat of terrorism within the capital.

The incident, occurring in close proximity to the heavily fortified police academy area, once again underscores the precarious security situation in Mogadishu, casting doubt on the government’s ability to safeguard its own officials.

Al-Shabaab has since claimed responsibility for the heinous act, further exacerbating concerns over the escalating violence perpetrated by the militant group.

As insecurity continues to plague the capital, with civilians bearing the brunt of the growing terror threat, questions linger regarding the capacity of security forces to effectively counter such attacks.

Mogadishu police spokesman Abdifatah Adan Hassan remained unavailable for comment regarding the tragic demise of Colonel Biid.

This tragic event comes on the heels of another abduction by Al-Shabaab.,

Just weeks prior, armed militants forcibly took Police Captain Abdihamid Ali Barrow from his home in the Kaxda district of Mogadishu.

Despite pleas from the family for information on his whereabouts, both Mogadishu police and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) have remained tight-lipped, leaving loved ones in agonizing uncertainty.
