    Somalia President meets Russian ambassador to Somalia and Djibouti, discusses Security, Social and Humanitarian issues

    Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday met the Russian Ambassador to Somalia and Djibouti Mikhail Golovanovat the state house, according to a statement released by Villa Somalia.

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday met the Russian Ambassador to Somalia and Djibouti Mikhail Golovanovat the state house, according to a statement released by Villa Somalia.

Both President Mohamud and Ambassador Mikhail Golovanov,discussed range of topics including security, social and humanitarian crisis.



 

"The President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Government and people of Russia for their generous support in Somalia’s HIPC debt relief process.” A statement from Villa Somalia read.

The meeting comes amid the African Union forces are withdrawing from Somalia and the government is facing backlash in the fight against the terrorist group Al-Shabab.Several villages liberated by the Somali National Army has been recaptured by the Shabab in an apparent comeback.

It remains unclear how Russia will involve itself in Somalia’s security, though Russian president Vladimir Putin has been extending his influence by sending military advisers to other African nations recently.
