    Somalia: Professional immigrants from Yemen and Sudan complete a Somali Language Course in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) In a Somali language course organized by The Somali Digital Media Academy (SODMA) for Professional immigrant from Yemen and Sudan, the first of its kind held in Somalia.


The graduation ceremony of the first cohort of the "Tawaasol” program, which aims to teach the Somali language to Arabic speakers  was attended by several Somali government officials and prominent figures, including representatives from the Somali Ministry of Education, the Somali Academy of Science, Culture, and Arts, as well as media professionals and other distinguished guests.

After successful complition of the course, the  graduates, who work in prestigious professions and vital sectors in Somalia, such as medicine, engineering, and others, were awarded certicicates. 

In his opening remarks, Abdihman Yusuf Hassan (Bukhari), the Director-General of the Academy, highlighted the primary goal of the program was to create a bridge of communication between Arab brothers and the Somali community.

"They felt compelled to address the urgent need to teach the Somali language to Arabic speakers. He expressed the Academy’s readiness to collaborate with relevant authorities to enhance and expand this project as a national program.”  Abdihman Yusuf Hassan (Bukhari), the Director-General of the Academy, said.

Bukhari further pledged to organize new courses in the future to expand the scope of this program.

The participants in the ceremony described the experience as the first of its kind, emphasizing that it is a national initiative that the state should have adopted.

For his part, Dr. Abubakar Haji Khalifa, Director of the Sharia Institutes Unit at the Ministry of Education, praised this initiative as the  learning the Somali lanaguage will help integration into Somali community and will help improve their langauge skills both as professionals and as immigrants .

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduates and the Director of the "Tawaasol” program, Mr. Mohamed Osman Ibrahim, who taught the course and prepared its curriculum, were honored.

The participants praised the instructor’s performance and dedication in delivering this course, which is considered the first of its kind in the country, describing the experience as "unique and enriching,” and expressing pride in the results achieved.
