MOGADISHU, Somalia (HORN OBSERVER) – At least five people were killed and eight others injured after two bomb explosions targeted a youth gathering spot in Kahda district on Saturday, local authorities confirmed.
Kahda District Commissioner, Abdullahi Abdirahman, stated that the first explosion occurred at a popular greenfield area, frequented by young people who often gather there to take selfies and record videos for social media.
The second bomb detonated shortly after rescue teams arrived, intensifying the death toll.
Survivor Mohamed Ahmed recounted the horrifying scene, saying, "The bomb went off on the roadside as young men and women were taking their selfies. There was a huge blast sending big dark smoke into the air. Nearby people rushed to help, and then there was a second blast.”
Initial images from the scene showed injured people and bodies scattered on the ground in the aftermath of the explosions.
Local officials have strongly condemned the attack.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility.
