This traditional Somali performance that combines singing, dancing, and storytelling showcases role of women and youth in Somalia:


We, Somalis, are struggling to find harmony, Just because our women are being marginalized,

Their rights and freedoms have been suppressed, While men continue their struggles for dominance.


Have we forgotten the mother, the nurturer, Who guided us with wisdom and grace?

True freedom transcends all boundaries, We yearn to freely voice our thoughts,

My voice is an awakening, My voice is an awakening.

Ambitious young women and men, With dreams to lead the nation, are being denied.

We desire leaders who nurture aspirations, Who can guide us toward a thriving nation.

If we are allowed into the venue of dialogue and decision making, Our country could, without doubt, heal, free of chaos and conflict.

True freedom transcends all boundaries, We yearn to freely voice our thoughts!
