Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The Somali Congress of Trade Unions (SOCOTU) has wrapped up a two-day mission to Riyadh, advancing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation on workers' rights, decent work conditions, and the protection of migrant labor.

During the visit, the SOCOTU delegation — led by President Mohamed Haji and Secretary General Mohamud Hassan — held a series of constructive discussions with the Saudi National Committee of Workers Committees (SNC). As part of the mission, the delegation met with Eng. Nasser Aljaryad, Chairman of the Saudi National Committee of Workers Committees, where both sides explored opportunities to enhance collaboration and improve support systems for Somali workers in the Kingdom.

The meetings focused on reinforcing solidarity between the two institutions, exchanging trade union expertise, and addressing key issues facing Somali workers employed in Saudi Arabia.

A central outcome of the mission was the affirmation of a Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening dialogue channels, enhancing worker protection frameworks, and coordinating joint initiatives that promote fair labor standards.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to defending the rights and welfare of Somali workers recruited to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in alignment with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, conventions, and established mechanisms for the protection of migrant workers’ rights.

SOCOTU underscored its unwavering mandate to advocate for the rights, safety, and dignity of all Somali workers both inside the country and across the diaspora ensuring they receive fair treatment, equitable opportunities, and strong union representation.

This renewed partnership marks an important step toward advancing decent work, improving labor protections, and deepening cooperation between SOCOTU and SNC in the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights and social justice.
