Mogadishu — The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene met with Djibouti's newly appointed Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Osman Doubad Sougouleh, at AUSSOM Headquarters in Mogadishu.

Ambassador Diene was accompanied by Deputy SRCC Ambassador Mouktar Osman Kaire during the meeting, which focused on AUSSOM's mandate, the evolving security situation in Somalia, and recent developments related to Somali-led efforts to enhance peace, security, and stability.

Ambassador Diene expressed appreciation for Djibouti's longstanding contribution to peace and security in Somalia, including the continued deployment of Djiboutian troops under AUSSOM.

He also commended Ambassador Sougouleh for his contribution to peace, security, and stability in Somalia, particularly during his tenure as AMISOM Sector 4 Commander under Operation Hiil Walaal from September 2012 to May 2016. Ambassador Diene highlighted Sougouleh's role in operations against insurgent strongholds in central Somalia, as well as his efforts to strengthen local governance structures and promote clan reconciliation in Beletweyne, Hiiraan Region.

Ambassador Sougouleh reflected on his previous service in Somalia, noting the security progress achieved since his time as an AMISOM sector commander. He reaffirmed the Republic of Djibouti's commitment to supporting peace, security, and stability in Somalia.

The two officials reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration and a strong partnership in support of Somali-led initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable peace, security, and long-term stability across the country.
