NAIROBI, Kenya — IGAD and the United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa have launched a three-day regional training aimed at strengthening approaches to conflict prevention, conflict sensitivity, political economy analysis, and peacebuilding across the Horn of Africa.

The training, taking place from September 16–18, 2026, brings together officials from government institutions, civil society organizations, women- and youth-led groups, and community peace institutions from across the IGAD region.

Participants are examining the causes and dynamics of conflict, with sessions focusing on how political economy analysis can help assess the influence of power, actors, interests, and institutions on peace and conflict. The program also explores the connections between political and economic interests, conflict dynamics, and peacebuilding efforts.

The training is intended to strengthen participants’ ability to develop inclusive, evidence-based, and conflict-sensitive responses to regional challenges. Interactive discussions are allowing participants to apply the frameworks to their respective national and institutional contexts, according to a statement released by IGAD Peace and Security Division

The initiative is supported by the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund as part of broader efforts to build regional capacity for conflict prevention and sustainable peace.
