
Somalia Parliament session ends in disarray


Luul Abdi Hassan, a lawmaker, who spoke to Somalia’sRadio Kulmiye said in an interview that "They plan to extend the term of the government and the parliament two more years and that majority of the lawmakers support this”
Somali government, whose term has ended, failed to hold planned parliamentary election, after two of the five regional presidents voiced concerns about the Somali president’s intervention in Jubbaland.
Opposition lawmakers opposed the opening of the session. One of the opposition MPs said that "If the agenda is not misleading and is only about COVID19, why have these heavily armed forces were brought to the parliament”
The parliament’s session comes a mid the Somali president, presidential candidates and leaders of the regional federal member states of Puntland, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle, Southwest and Galmudug are meeting in Mogadishu to reach agreement on the Somali elections.
Somalia’s international partners repeatedly said that they will not support partial or parallel electoral process, or an automatic extension of previous mandates.
