
Somalia: Qoorqoor and Gudlawe to declare their stance on Farmajo's extension

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Leaders of Hirshabelle and Galmudug states are expected to declare their position on term extension of the outgoing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo tonight following long hours meeting the opposition leaders.
Ahmed Qoorqoor, the President of Galmudug and his HirShabelle counterpart Ali on Saturday held meeting with leaders of Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) in Mogadishu but failed owing to differences between the two sides.According to sources, two regional leaders informed the CPC that they (CPC) were invited to meet with Farmajo over the current political deadlock.
The opposition leaders turned down the invitation by president Farmajo. It was however agreed, a source confirmed that the two leaders return today to declare their position.
Meanwhile, leaders from clans in Somali capital are expected to convene to discuss their positions on Somalia's Lower House of Parliament's decision to extend the federal government's term for two years.
On Saturday, Farmaajo met with representatives of the international community on Saturday where he was reportedly asked to drop the extension idea and return to the negotiating table.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe and his close ally, Sa’ad Abdullahi Deni warned that the country was heading to a ‘dangerous place’ following Farmajo’s extension.
On the other hand, Puntland state parliament had voted overwhelmingly to oppose the two more years extension in office for Famajo.
