ANKARA (HORN OBSERVER) - Turkish government has said Qatari led efforts to restore diplomatic ties between Somalia and Kenya could enhance cooperation peace in the horn of Africa nation.

In a statement, Turkish foreign ministry thanked Qatari conflict resolution envoy saying Qatari government for would create conducive environment for the peoples from both countries.

"We welcome the developments regarding the resuming of diplomatic relations between Somalia and Kenya. We appreciate the efforts of the State of Qatar in this process," said the Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Last Thursday, Somalia announced it was restoring diplomatic relations with neighbouring Kenya.

"Now diplomatic relations are restored," deputy information minister Abdirahman Yusuf told a news conference in Mogadishu, saying the Gulf Arab state of Qatar had helped in the process.

According to Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani who spoe to Reuters, Doha had agreed with the presidents of both countries that they would work on strengthening bilateral relations and bringing them "back on track".

Last December, Somalia had announced it had cut ties with Kenya, accusing Nairobi of political interference, claims Kenya denied.

The two countries disputed over the ownership of a triangular territory measuring 100,000km2 in the Indian Ocean boundary. Following the failure of talks to iron out their differences, Somali took the case to International Court of Justice in 2014.

The court has concluded the hearing of the case this year and is expected to announce its ruling in the forthcoming months.
