Kampala, Uganda, (Horn Observer) President Mohamed Abdullahi 'Farmaajo' Mohamed on May 12 joined several regional leaders in Kampala, Uganda for the sixth elective inauguration of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Mr. Farmaajo was accompanied by the country's First Lady, Saynab Abdi Moallim.

Burundi is a troop contributing country with more than 5000 peacekeepers fighting against the Somali militant group Al-Shabab, under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

On the sidelines, Mr. Farmaajo met his Burundian counterpart, President Evariste Ndayishimiye. The meeting was confirmed by Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu who is the official Spokesperson of the Federal Government of Somalia. Moalimuu noted that the two leaders held talks that centered on furthering ties of cooperation on key areas of the economy, peace, and security for the mutual benefit of the nations and citizens.

"H.E President @M_Farmaajo meets his Burundian Counterpart H.E Evariste Ndayishimiye @GeneralNeva in #Kampala. The two leaders discussed furthering Somali-Burundi ties of cooperation on key areas of economy, peace and security for the mutual benefit of the nations and citizens.” Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, Spokesperson of Federal Government of Somalia said on twitter

The meeting and talks to further ties between the two nations come at a time when Mr. Farmaajo and his administration are in a tight corner with her neighbor Kenya. Nairobi issued a notice suspending all chartered and scheduled flights to and from Somalia until August.

The ban follows after mounting pressure from Kenyan khat sellers whose 50,000 US Dollars worth Khat remained stranded in Nairobi, after Somalia imposed ban on Khat Imports from Kenya.
