MOGADISHU, July 22 (Horn Observer) Plane carrying 114 Somali prisoners who were released from Ethiopian jails arrived in Mogadishu on Saturday evening, officials said.

Upon arrival in Mogadishu, the prisoners were received by the Somali officials at the Aden Adde International airport in Mogadishu.

Mohamed Ali Nor, the Somali ambassador to Ethiopia who accompanied the 114 Somali prisoners from Jigjiga airport handed them over to the Somali authorities, according to a statement released by the Ministry of foreign affairs of Somalia.

Ethiopia is the one of the troop contributing countries of the African union mission to Somalia and shares the longest border with Somalia.

The Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia Jamaaludiin Mustaf Omar said the release of the Somali prisoners is part strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

"Some of these prisoners had been sentenced long terms of up to 20 years by the Ethiopian courts and their release shows the level of cooperation between Ethiopia and Somalia” Jamaaludiin Mustafe said as cited by the local media.

The release of the prisoners represents a victory to the government of Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire who struck the deal with the Ethiopian government in June this year. Prime minister Khaire said in his twitter account that his government will continue searching the rights of Somali nationals wherever they are in the world.
