    Jubbaland state to hold senate election on Thursday

    KISMAYO (HORN OBSERVER) - Jubbaland Electoral Committee on Tuesday released a timetable for the senate election of senate ahead of Somali presidential election which is slated for 10 October.

KISMAYO (HORN OBSERVER) - Jubbaland Electoral Committee on Tuesday released a timetable for the senate election of senate ahead of Somali presidential election which is slated for 10 October.
In a statement, the commission said that candidates could begin registration for the Upper House of Parliament on Wednesday.

The candidates will be able to make their pitches to the Jubaland State Parliament on Thursday before voting commences later that day.

Thursday's vote will be for four of the seats while elections for the four remaining posts will take place after candidates are vetted.

Nine candidates will contest Thursday, among them only one woman, according to a statement issued Tuesday, and signed by the leader of Jubbaland state, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe,


1- Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag and Ahmed Mohamed Jama.
2- Halimo Jama Mohamed and Abdirizak Mohamed Osman
3- Ilyas Badal Gaboose, Mohamed Ahmed Sayid and Sharmarke Mohamed Abdi
4- Ibrahim Yaqub Ismail and Iftin Hassan Iman.

The announcement was hailed by Prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, who is currently in London for Global Education Summit said the process will a milestone.

"I commend President Ahmed Madobe and the Jubaland Electoral Commission for submitting the list of Federal Upper House candidates and announcing the election timetable,” Roble said.

Majority of Somalia’s regional state presidents had failed to meet the July 25 timeline for the start of elections in the regional parliaments.

Only Southwest and Jubbaland states have appointed election teams while all the other regional governments including the Somaliland caucus are yet to name their teams.

According to the elections schedule, FMS presidents were supposed to submit the names of candidates for the senate race latest on July 24.
