MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Mogadishu's Hamar Weyne district as a lone suicide bomber detonated explosives outside the Salam Bank headquarters, resulting in at least three fatalities and numerous injuries.

Among the victims is Abdirisak Ali Mohamud, an employee of Salam Bank, a sister institution to Somalia’s largest telecom company, Hormuud.

Hormuud Telecom officials have officially confirmed the death of their colleague.

A CCTV footage from the scene captures the chilling moment of the suicide bombing at the entrance shared by Hormuud Telecom and Salam Bank offices.

The proximity of the area to the Mogadishu mayor’s office adds an extra layer of significance to the incident.

In the footage, individuals in a nearby tea shop can be seen rushing to safety, while two injured men are escorted away from the blast site.

The audio recording accompanying the visuals captures the unsettling sound of gunshots resonating in the aftermath of the explosion.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that their target was security officials.

This alarming incident follows closely on the heels of a national intelligence (NISA) raid on multiple Hormuud Telecom offices in the capital, where members of the company’s employees were detained.

Hormuud, in an official statement, accused NISA of targeting its employees and headquarters.

In a counter statement, NISA asserted that it was targeting Hormuud employees due to alleged "terror links”, despite providing no evidence to support the claims.

The situation remains tense as Mogadishu authorities grapple with the aftermath of the deadly bombing and the ongoing disputes between Hormuud Telecom and national intelligence.
