Mogadishu, (Horn Observer) Somalia has on Thursday said it denied clearance to a cargo plane bound to Hargeisa, the breakaway region of Somalia amid heightened tensions over Somaliland-Ethiopia MoU, officials said.

The denial of the clearance follows after the cargo plane with registration number P4-JAG from Thailand decline to close the details of the cargo it was carrying, according to a statement from Somalia’s civil aviation authority.

Unconfirmed reports said that Hargeisa bound cargo plane was carrying weapons to the break-away region of Somaliland.

The incident comes a day after Somalia’s federal government denied clearance to Hargeisa bound Ethiopian flight carrying Ethiopian government delegation.

According to Somali officials the Ethiopian delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and senior military and intelligence officials were visiting Somaliland to broker a deal with the separatist State administration which has ignited a controversy.

Somalia and Ethiopia have recently been entangled in a strained diplomatic tension after Ethiopia signed a controversial agreement with Somaliland, paving way for Ethiopia to access the Red sea.
