MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – Three international flights have canceled their routes to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, today after the U.S. Embassy issued a threat alert on Monday.

Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and FlyDubai have canceled their Tuesday flights, confirmed Mogadishu airport officials, Kaab TV reported.

The FlightRadar, a website that tracks international flights, displayed the canceled flights, all scheduled for today.

Some passengers informed Kaab TV that they were notified by the airlines about the cancellation of Tuesday’s flights.

Some passengers were returning from Umrah activities in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, ahead of tomorrow’s Eid al-Fitr.

In a statement published yesterday, the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi stated that it "has received information about threats to multiple locations in Mogadishu, including Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. All movements of U.S. Embassy personnel have been canceled for Tuesday, April 9, 2024.”

"The U.S. Department of State’s Level Four travel advisory (‘do not travel’) for Somalia remains in effect due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, health issues, kidnapping, and piracy,” it adds.

Meanwhile, Mogadishu residents witnessed mortar attacks at midnight on Monday. Residents in the city center reported several rounds of mortar attacks landing near the presidential palace. Casualties are not yet known.
