
Somalia to get China-made Covid-19 vaccine

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER ) - Somali Health Ministry announced that the country will soon receive an unspecified number of doses of China-donated Sinovac.
Fowzia Abikar Nur, Somali health minister who met with China ambassador to Somalia, Qin Jian this week, said Somalia will be among 53 countries that will receive Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccines.
"Rather than strengthen the immune system and contribute to the prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the AstraZeneca vaccine –rolled out by UNICEF and administered by the apostate Somali regime –does more harm than good and has an array of adverse side effects as illustrated by many health professionals and proven in medical researches around the world,” the statement reads in part.
Since last year, when the country recorded the first case of the novel coronavirus, 529 people have died of virus, according the ministry.
11,398 cases of the disease have also been confirmed across the country for period.

The ministry did not give out further details of the donation. The announcement comes barely two weeks after the horn of Africa nation received 300,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from the international COVAX vaccine initiative.
The following the minister started inoculations which was intended target about 600,000 frontline workers and members of other vulnerable groups.
But, according to a statement by the ministry last week, the target fell shot of the required number of people, forcing the ministry to open many branches in a bid to encourage all citizen to receive the shot voluntarily.
Early this week, in a statement, Al-Shabaab militant group had rejected the use of COVID-19 inoculation, owing "its harms far outweigh its alleged benefits”.
