MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) The Federal Government of Somalia on Thursday reiterating its decision on June 2017 towards the Gulf crisis, following series of statements issued by some federal member states claiming to have sided with Saudi Alliance over Qatar.

According to a statement released by Somalia Ministry of Information stated that "Somalia takes neutral approach with a view to solve the crisis in some of the Golf States through diplomacy and brotherhood manner.”

"The Federal Government of Somalia has successfully implemented an excellent working relationship with Federal member states that are part of the Federal Government of Somalia. Somali President has chaired two leaders’ forum within the last 6 months to discuss key issues such as security and the unity of the nation.” The statement said, "Article 54 of the provisional constitution of Somalia clearly states that only the Federal Government of Somalia can make key decisions for the country such as foreign relations, defense, citizenship, and monetary policy.”

The regional member states of Galmudug and Southwest issued Press Statements this week claiming to have sided with the Saudi Alliance over Qatar and accused the Federal government of Somalia to have reached its  June 6th decision"without much consideration and consultation with the Somali Federal Member States and the population it will affect.”

This is not the first defiance statement from one of the Somalia's competing federal states. Last month, Puntland issued a statement in which it backed the Saudi and UAE over Qatar, while opposing the government’s decision on the case.

Somalia has always maintained neutrality on relations with other countries in the Arab states, in Africa and in the Islamic countries. In late 70s Somalia opted not to cut ties with Egypt as a result of the Camp David agreement. It later became a decision that was praised as wise. This position, which the cabinet reiterated today, has been hailed by Somalis everywhere as well as our international partners.

Saudi Arabia and UAE continue to meddle the Somalia’s internal affairs and more recently Saudi Alliance is believed to be backing a motion against the Prime Khaire’s government over its neutral decision on the Gulf Crisis
