MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – In a tragic turn of events, Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, witnessed a wave of deadly attacks in recent days.

On Tuesday night, at least three lives were claimed in double IED bombings targeting the Ceelasha Biyaha neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.

The police revealed that the planted IEDs were aimed at security forces stationed in the area, though it remains unclear whether the victims were civilians or members of the security forces.

Ceelasha Biyaha, a crucial corridor linking the capital to Afgoye town in the Lower Shabelle region, bore the brunt of the explosions.

Authorities suspect the involvement of the extremist group Al-Shabaab in these attacks, marking the neighborhood as one of the worst-hit areas by their violence in recent weeks.

The horrors continued as another bomb blast shook the Hamarweyne district market in Mogadishu on Wednesday mid-day.

Police disclosed that the bomb was an improvised explosive device (IED) strategically placed near a petrol station in the city center market.

Chaos ensued as residents and shoppers fled the market in the aftermath of the explosion. Police raised concerns about a potential second unexploded bomb hidden in the vicinity, urging caution.

As of now, there have been no reported casualties from the market bombing.

The incidents underscore the persistent threat of terrorism faced by Mogadishu, with Al-Shabaab continuing to unleash violence in the heart of the city.
