BEIRUT (HORN OBSERVER) - Somali government has announced that it will repatriate ex-ISIS fighters from the horn of African nation who are in Syrian jails.

Farhan Gurhan, Somalia’s chargé d'Affaires in Syria who spoke to BBC Somali service has confirmed that his government was carrying out plans to secure the release of ex-ISIS fighters from Somalia.

"I met with Kurdish rebel officials who controls the region. They promised to take me to the Alroj camp, which hosts Somali women. They promised that they organized meeting between I and two Somali men who were former ISIS fighters and currently in a prison,” said Gurhan.

According to Farhan, Alroj Camp and its neighbouring camps are hosting 19 Somali women and 23 children.

Farhan stated Somali government wanted these people repatriated to Somalia, saying they have been suffering in camps and prisons in Syria for years.

Somalis detained in Syrian prisons are mostly from Europe and the United States, and have joined ISIS, but when the group was defeated, some of them (Somalis) died and others were detained.
