MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) A unit of the national army trained in Turkey was warmly welcomed in Mogadishu's Adan Adde airport on Friday as government mobilizes troops along the border region of Gedo in the Jubbaland region of Somalia.

Defense Minister Hassan Ali Mohamed, the commander of the Somali National Army , along with the commander of the Turkish-Somali military training center, welcomed members of the Somali National Army known as  Gorgor at the airport saying that the units were highly trained in Turkey   and are aimed to stabilize on  how the Somali people can cope with the pressure on al-Shabaab terrorists.

However, Somali government has been mobilizing troops along Gedo region which borders Kenya where the Somali government is planning to completely take over the region from the Jubbaland administration, where the Jubbaland leader Ahmed Madobe and Abdirashid Janan who recently escaped from government prison are also mobilizing troops there paving way for a new bloody confrontation.

Many analysts say that this new conflict will weaken the government’s ability to fight against the Shabab and will waste much needed resources in internal government.

On the other hand, A total of three hundred Darwish trainees of the Somali Police Force have graduated at the General Kahiye Police Training Academy in Mogadishu after completing a month-long specialised training. The trainees were first trained in Djibouti for three months before undergoing a refresher programme at the police academy in January 2020.They are the first batch of 1,750 Darwish forces to be trained to secure population centres in liberated areas and newly liberated areas of Lower Shabelle region. Instructors from the AMISOM police component supported by the UN Police (UNPOL), the EU Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP), UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), and the EU Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM) provided the training.
