HARGEYSA (Horn Observer) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi criticized Somalia's recent decision to label separatism as a national security threat.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Somaliland’s new museum built in Hargeysa, president Bihi stated that if Somalia intends to fight Somaliland, the "field is open.”

He said Somalia’s continued rejection of Somaliland’s self-independence and allowing its existence is one of the issues that deepens the hatred between the two sides.

"It is like someone saying to you your name is not Jama and that you are part of me”, he said.

He said the 26th June is Somaliland’s independence day and refuted that Somalia also celebrated for the day which marks the day Britain gave independence to then British protectorate of Somaliland.

Bihi also confirmed that Mogadishu is negotiating with Al-Shabaab and claimed that the Somali president is changing his stance towards the terror group.

Additionally, President Bihi criticized Djibouti for hosting a group of Somaliland opposition members advocating for the secession of the Awdal region from Somaliland. He called for unity among Somalilanders.
