Somaliland Teachers' Association Gains Official Recognition, Strengthening Advocacy for Educators Across the Region.
HARGEISA, Somaliland (HORN OBSERVER) - The Somaliland Teachers' Association (SOLTA) has officially received recognition from the Somaliland Ministry of Education and Science, marking a major milestone for teachers and educational progress across the region.

In an official letter dated September 30, 2024, Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane, Minister of Education and Science, formally approved the Somaliland Teachers’ Association (SOLTA), empowering it to represent primary, intermediate, and secondary school teachers nationwide.

This recognition follows SOLTA’s initial Trade Union Registration Certificate, granted by the Somaliland Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Family on March 2021.

The association held its first General Assembly on December 20, 2021, at the Mansoor Hotel in Hargeisa, where delegates from all Somaliland regions elected a board of 23 members, regional representatives, and five executive committee members.

This assembly laid the groundwork for SOLTA’s mission to represent, unify, and support teachers throughout Somaliland.

"As we celebrate this achievement, we extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Ahmed Aden Buhane and the Ministry of Education and Science for their unwavering support and belief in our vision,” said Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed (Ahmed Omaar), SOLTA’s Director of Training and Organizational Development and Board Member. "We also appreciate the foundational support from the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Family.”

SOLTA remains dedicated to advocating for teachers' welfare and advancing their professional interests, promoting both educational development and the teaching profession.

"We believe that investing in teachers directly benefits students and is vital to national development,” added Ahmed Omaar.
