Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) The Somali Presidential Guard has reportedly fired on drones that approached the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu late Friday with their origin and intent still unconfirmed, highlighting growing security concerns over drone threats to key government locations.

Witnesses near the compound observed heavy gunfire targeting at least several drones, raising fears of a potential attack  as the Presidential Guard tried to intercept the drones  that hovered ominously above the president’s office.

Security reports suggest that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been moved from his usual residence to a more secure undisclosed location for safety.

It remains unclear whether tthe drones were successfully shot down.

There has been no official word from Somali authorities, and investigations are ongoing to determine the drones’ origin and intentions.

This incident follows previous warnings from Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority about the risks posed by drones, especially in sensitive areas of the capital. Security forces have long been on alert for possible drone attacks by militant groups, have long sought to receive drones and other advanced technology.

In August 2024, Security forces in Somalia's Puntland State have apprehended seven individuals suspected of being affiliated with Al-Shabaab or ISIS, along with a shipment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) being smuggled into the country,
