New York (Horn Observer) At the United Nations, the A3 group of African members of the Security Council namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, and Somalia. condemned attacks on humanitarian assets in Sudan, including a recent strike on a World Food Program convoy attributed to elements of the Rapid Support Forces, according to a statement released by the African Union.

Delivering a joint statement on behalf of the A3, H.E. Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, Permanent Representative of Somalia to the United Nations, said the attack further undermines already fragile humanitarian lifelines in a country facing catastrophic levels of suffering.

"The scale of suffering demands a substantial and sustained increase in humanitarian funding, commensurate with the gravity of the crisis,” he said, stressing that humanitarian actors must be able to operate safely, rapidly, and without obstruction.

The condemnation follows continued violence in Sudan that has severely restricted humanitarian access and exacerbated civilian hardship. The A3 underscored that attacks on aid personnel and assets violate international law and deepen the plight of vulnerable communities.

In observance of the holy month of Ramadan, the group called for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Ambassador Osman emphasized that a pause in fighting would allow life-saving assistance to reach those in need and provide civilians with much-needed respite.

"The values of this sacred time — peace, mercy, and unity — should guide all efforts toward de-escalation,” he said, urging restraint and "the silencing of guns” in honor of Ramadan.

The A3 also highlighted the central role of the African Union in addressing the crisis, working in coordination with the United Nations, including the efforts of the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy.

Reaffirming its commitment, the A3 pledged continued support for diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives aimed at restoring peace, stability, and relief for the people of Sudan.
