Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson yesterday released a five-point rebuttal towards what it terms as intruders to its sovereignty.

The statementcomes amidst international community reports like those of Amnesty International and one by the American government that has blamed Ethiopia for complacency with regards to the humanitarian aid needed in Tigray.

"It is indeed regrettable to note these days that there appears to be a concerted campaign to exert undue pressure against Ethiopia. Despite the relentless efforts by the Ethiopian government to engage positively and constructively on issues and concerns raised by partners, it is being given a cold shoulder." read part of the statement.

"That is why the Ethiopian government is being forced to question the motives of some of the partners, particularly given the public statements and pronouncements they made recently." continued the statement

The Ethiopian government questioned the latest spate of statements by the international community. The government noted that it had allowed full access to the Tigray region despite what the partners were reporting. While admitting that access to certain regions was tough due to insecurity. The Ethiopian government had intervened and now the regions can be accessed.

On human rights abuse, the statement read that the Ethiopian government had appointed a team composed of representatives from the Federal Attorney General and the Federal Police Commission and they were deployed in the Tigray Region to carry out investigative work. Last week, they announced the outcome of their criminal investigations and the actions taken thus far to ensure the necessary accountability in this regard.

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission has been investigating and reporting on human rights issues, including the Mai Kadra massacre, civilian casualties, sexual violence, and allegations of discriminatory treatment. The statement confirms that the outcome of these investigations will certainly enable the government to bring the perpetrators to justice and comprehensively address alleged human rights violations and crimes that have occurred in the Tigray region.

The government emphasized the significance of dialogue with stakeholders like political parties, prominent personalities, the private sector, and civil society in the Tigray region as the country gears up to hold national elections.

On allegations of the clampdown on dissent, the Ethiopian government boasted of its record in rescuing the country from the abyss and opened up the political space to safeguard greater peace, freedom, and democracy. Reminding the world of its reform credentials that have also been well recognized not only domestically but also internationally.

The statement also emphasized the willingness of the government to engage other partners, foreign or domestic to find lasting solutions to the problem in Tigray.

In the last weeks and months, the international community led by Amnesty International and the US government have released hard-hitting statements that have cast the country's government as being complicit in the suffering of people in Tigray.
